HMS Illustrious
On Thursday 22nd October 2009, the Royal Navy's flagship and National Strike Carrier HMS Illustrious arrived in Liverpool for the start of a six day visit to the City. On Friday 23rd October 2009 we witnessed the Fly Navy 100 which was a fly-past of a squadron of 44 vintage and modern warplanes. Prince Andrew, the Duke of York was on board the Illustrious to take the salute. The aircraft carrier was open to the public for a few days but we prefered to go and see her during the fly-past and when she left down on Crosby Beach.

This is Prince Andrew's helicopter leaving the Illustrious after the fly-past. It is said that he flew it himself.
My daughters, messing about on the river!
