Under & Over the Mersey
My Pages
On Sunday 19th July me and my family took part in a walkthrough of the Queensway Mersey Tunnel as part of its 75th year celebrations. We all received a specially struck medal for taking part and collected it as we crossed the finish line over in Birkenhead.
Over 15,000 people took part in the walk which had 5 different start times. Our time was 10.30am and local celebrity Keith Chegwin was the host.
A grand parade of vintage cars was led by the Chester Vintage Enthusiasts Club
Gerry from "Corrie" or was it Sinbad from "Brookie" sang to us and we were visited by the King & Queen of the Tunnels
Our 10.30am start meant we entered the tunnel at about 10.40am
The half way point, marked by the crests of Liverpool and Wirral councils
After about a 45 minute walk we emerged from the tunnel on the Birkenhead side of the Mersey
Proudly displaying their medals, they really enjoyed themselves...honest!

Then it was back to the ferry for the trip over to Liverpool
